A Heroic Canine: Discover the Secret Behind His Impressive Achievements

Chelan County Jail’s K9 unit is making waves, thanks to the incredible work of Gambit, a talented four-year-old Border Collie mix specializing in drug detection. Gambit has showcased his impressive skills in identifying six different illegal substances, leaving a lasting impact during his first operational year.

Guided by Deputy Jacob Lewis, the dynamic duo took part in nearly 200 searches in local schools and correctional facilities. Gambit’s heightened senses led to the successful detection of drugs like fentanyl and methamphetamine over 30 times. This is especially noteworthy given the ongoing challenges of limited funding, which underscores the importance of the current fundraising effort for Gambit.

Financial support for Gambit’s care and the continuation of this vital program largely stems from the generosity of private donors. This campaign is crucial, not only for sustaining Gambit’s upkeep but also for encouraging similar programs across other jails in Washington, which have been inspired by Chelan County’s example.

Gambit stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of his predecessor, Kait, who passed away due to health issues. Rescued from challenging circumstances, Gambit has thrived, becoming a pivotal force in community safety. To support this initiative, the fundraiser offers a range of merchandise, including T-shirts and hoodies, with all proceeds dedicated to the K9 program.

The campaign is set to end on November 6. Community members are encouraged to contribute, whether through purchases or raising awareness, ensuring that remarkable canine officers like Gambit can continue their indispensable work.
